For those whose accommodation in Hong Kong happens to be in the New Territories areas like Tsuen Wan, for example, getting to Lantau Island is a breeze. Tsuen Wan is situated directly across the Tsing Ma Bridge from Lantau. One of the most popular Hong Kong serviced apartments properties – Bay Bridge Hong Kong by Hotel G (formerly The Bay Bridge Hong Kong Hotel & Serviced Apartments) – sits on the Tsuen Wan shoreline looking out over the bridge.
Bay Bridge Hong Kong by Hotel G, like many of the hotels and serviced apartments in Hong Kong, is conveniently located near the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) which can be taken to Lantau Island. Along with the MTR, busses, taxis and ferries can also be taken there.
Lantau Island is almost double the size of Hong Kong Island itself, and Hong Kong International Airport is situated on the small island of Chek Lap Kok on the north side of Lantau. The journey by road or rail between the airport and Kowloon or Hong Kong Island takes visitors along a good portion of the Lantau Island coastline and across the Tsing Ma
Hotel technology is constantly evolving, shaping our experience not only of the properties at which we stay, but in the cities that we’re visiting. Brands are getting increasingly creative with the technology they use and the ways they use that tech. We caught up with a few hotel executives to learn more about how their properties are using in-room tablets to enhance customer experience. Here’s what they said:
Joshua Sloser, Vice President of Digital Product Innovation at Hilton Worldwide: We’ve piloted in-room tablets at a handful of hotels, including the Hilton Inn at Penn, and have seen success largely driven by their compelling content and ability to connect guests closely to the hotel. However, the need for hotel provided, in-room tablets is evolving. Many guests now prefer to use their own devices for ultimate personalization and customization throughout their travels. Therefore, we are focused on making the screen in their pocket the “remote control” to their stay. This could mean enabling guests to use their own device to connect their streaming service to the in-room TV or to play music through in-room speakersBrian McGuinness, Global Brand Leader, Starwood’s Specialty Select Brands: We have taken a nod from what people love most
After months of negotiations, hotels have emerged with higher rates for corporate customers in 2016. But increases are likely not as high as hotels would have liked.
Both Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and Hilton Hotels & Resorts said corporate negotiated rates for 2016 were increasing by mid-single digits.
Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott International, also said his company expects special corporate pricing to increase at a mid-single digit rate this year.
Hyatt Hotels Corporation was the only one of the major hotel companies to use an actual number for this year’s increases: Interim chief financial officer Atish Shah said he expects an increase of about seven percent.
“This outcome reflects the expansion of our brand offerings and increased traction with key volume accounts,” he said.

The negotiating season for 2016 corporate hotel rates proved to be even more challenging than in previous years, but efforts paid off, as rate increases came in softer than forecast in most global regions, according to analysts at mega travel management companies’ consultancy groups.
“We did run into situations where we really had to do multiple rounds of negotiations, similar to last year,” said Marwan Batrouni, senior director and global hotel practice area leader at BCD’s Advito consultancy, “but it felt like it was a little bit more demanding than last year, especially in primary markets.”
Eric Jongeling, director of hotel solutions in the Americas for Carlson Wagonlit Travel, said many clients had a hard time getting hotels to even respond to requests for proposals, as the suppliers expected larger room night or spend commitments. That back-and-forth of trying to get hotels to bid added time to the negotiation season, Jongeling said.
In North America, hotel rate increases averaged 2.7 percent year over year, according to Batrouni. “Not too bad,” he said, “given that we were forecasting a little over 5 percent increase for the entire year.” Not surprisingly, San Francisco proved the anomaly, as rates increased more than 10 percent year over
If you’ve ever found a bargain on a hotel only to discover a few clicks later that the property charged a nonnegotiable “resort fee,” you’re not alone. Last year, 744 properties in the United States added these fees to their guests’ final bills, an astonishing 25 percent increase from 2014.
That’s the bad news. The good news? The harder the hotel industry pushes these unwelcome fees on consumers, the closer the government comes to banning them.A coalition of consumer advocates, including the National Consumers League and Travelers United, is ratcheting up pressure on lawmakers to eliminate these controversial surcharges, which cover features such as wireless Internet access and towels at the hotel gym.
The coalition’s latest target: state governments. Late last year, the organizations made their pitch to a group of state attorneys general. Resort fees, they say, deceive customers, angering them and putting honest competitors at a disadvantage.
Public sentiment is on their side, they say. A national poll of registered voters released in late 2015 found that 80 percent said hotels and resorts should be required to include mandatory resort fees in the daily room rate, which would allow customers to comparison shop before they book a room. More than 20
Hotel Investors Check Out Early There are more headwinds swirling in terms of what’s going on in the world,” said Christopher Nassetta, Hilton’s chief executive officer. “That is causing investors to reflect and is creating a little bit of caution.”
The shift comes as investors start to re-evaluate a five-year rally across the entire commercial-property sector. Big sovereign-wealth funds, Chinese investors and other buyers have pushed values of office buildings, apartment complexes and hotels to record levels in many top markets in recent years, from New York to Los Angeles. Recently, the property market has started to cool off over concerns that slowing economic growth doesn’t support such lofty prices.
Yet the hotel industry’s fundamentals have rarely looked better. Occupancy rates have climbed steadily to a new all-time high of 66% last year after bottoming at 55% in 2009, according to data tracker STR Inc. Room rates, meanwhile, continue to rise, and hotel revenue is near an all-time high.
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC predicts that revenue per available room will increase 5.5% in 2016. That would mark the seventh consecutive year of so-called revPAR growth above 5%, the industry’s longest ever streak for growth at 5% or higher, according to STR Inc.The success, however, has

Lake Como will welcome a 34-suite hotel on its eastern shore this summer. It’s a welcome design break from what is currently found in the region: big Renaissance palazzos and ornate summer villas. Instead, the pared-back hotel, which has been designed by highly esteemed Milan architect Patricia Urquiola, will use natural materials such as wood and stone. Vertical gardens adorn the exterior of the building. All suites will have panoramic lake and mountain views. The hotel and hospitality sector caters to millions of travellers every day, and each one of them checks in with their own set of expectations. Meeting those expectations is the key to getting people to return, and increasingly hotel and leisure operators are turning to advanced analytics solutions for clues about how to keep their customers happy.
Additionally, although their marketing departments would be loathe admit it, not all guests are equal in the eyes of hotel and leisure operators. Some will simply check in and check out with a minimum of fuss. Others will spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on fine dining, entertainments, sports activities and spa treatments. Identifying those customers with a higher overall lifetime value to a particular business is hugely important in today’s market, but a customer’s lifetime value might not be empirically obvious from observing their behavior during one visit.
For example, a high-rolling customer spending money like it is going out of fashion in the hotel casino may be on a “holiday of a lifetime” following retirement, and unlikely to behave in this way every day. Meanwhile a frugal business customer taking an economy room and spending very little
1. HOTELS ARE RAKING IT IN.
The fact that a hotel could fail to be profitable astounds me. Why? The average cost to turn over a room, to keep it operational per day, is between $30 and $40. If you’re paying less than $30 dollars a night at a hotel/motel, I’d wager the cost to flip that room runs close to $5. Which makes me want to take a shower. At home. That $40 turnover cost includes cleaning supplies, electricity, and hourly wages for housekeepers, minibar attendants, front desk agents, and all other employees needed to operate a room as well as the cost of laundering the sheets. Everything. Compare that with an average room rate, and you can see why it’s a profitable business.
2. STAYING FOR JUST ONE NIGHT? YOU MIGHT GET “WALKED.”
The term “walking a guest” sends shivers down any manager’s spine. Since the average no-show rate is 10 percent daily, hotels will overbook whenever possible. The sales and reservations departments are encouraged to book the property to 110 percent capacity, in the hopes that with cancellations and no-shows they will fill every room. What happens when the numbers game doesn’t play in the hotel’s favor? Someone gets

WHAT everyone wants to hear is that there’s one simple website that always offers the best deal on hotel rooms.
But sorry, it’s not that easy.
If you got a bargain deal at a five-star hotel in Sydney last Christmas, it may not work for this holiday season.
That’s because the hotel industry is constantly in a state of flux. The price of hotel rooms are always changing based on demand.
Sometimes a website — such as Booking.com, Expedia or Hotels.com — has the best deal, but the next time you check it might be the hotel’s website that offers the lowest price. The website HotelsCombined allows travellers to compare prices on Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com and all the other major booking sites too (Agoda, HotelClub, etc).
Often you can get the best rate by picking up the phone and talking to the check-in attendant — or by booking months in advance or by showing up at the hotel at the last minute.
But never fear, here are some sure fire ways to save money on your next hotel reservation.

Indeed, Old Saybrook is a journey through centuries of time. A quiet, picturesque, Colonial shore town, it’s where the River meets the Sound, (Connecticut River and Long Island Sound) and it also happens to be one of “The Last Great Places.”
In the 1990s, The Nature Conservancy rallied enormous financial and community support around conservation with its call to save “The Last Great Places.” The happy news is that this enchanting destination has done just that. Here one finds over 100 homes designated with historical significance and15 National Register Historical Landmarks.
Beloved actress Katherine Hepburn first came to the town of Old Saybrook in 1912 when she was five years old. Her family’s house, in the borough of Fenwick, became her refuge from the demands of her career; she called it “paradise” and it was here that she retired in 1997. In 2003 the town of Old Saybrook restored the Town Hall and Hepburn’s family allowed the hall to be named after her. “The Kate,” as it is affectionately known, is dedicated to music, opera, dance, comedy and children’s theater, as well as a summer camp for kids.

Since ancient Cypriots purportedly ministered to ailing pilgrims at the temple of Asclepius, health tourism has grown to an estimated 11 million cross-border travelers each year.
According to Patients Without Borders, approximately 1,200,000 Americans traveled outside the US for medical care in 2014. Until recently, most were motivated to seek medical care abroad by the prospects of more affordable health care or shorter wait times than they might access at home. A growing niche of luxury facilities is emerging for health travelers who choose – rather than require – health care elsewhere. This “luxe” market draws those interested in improving physical, mental and emotional functioning while enjoying a health holiday. The newest of these destinations has opened in Namibia, a country rated among the top travel destinations on the planet.

If you still need convincing that the Caribbean is an idyllic place for your next golfing holiday, here are just a few reasons… With over 50 golf courses scattered across the Caribbean, there’s always one nearby. The Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Aruba, and Barbados all have world-class golf courses on their small islands.

Being islands, you can count on incredible seafood throughout- try Oistins in Barbados, which is a major fishing community with a modern fishing market. There’s also a wealth of tropical fruits and vegetables to sample, like the breadfruit in Jamaica or the locally grown soursop in Antigua.
